60. Garden of Remembrance Service St Paul’s Cathedral 6 November 2023

The service opens Remembrance Week and is attended by most all Livery Company Masters, Clerks and City representatives, including the Lord Mayor. It is an opportunity for the City and Livery to remember the Fallen in much the same way that the nation does at the Cenotaph on Remembrance Sunday.

The day started early with a generous breakfast in the Cathedral Crypt where Masters and Clerks caught up with each other.  We then moved to the Cathedral garden for a service conducted by the Dean of St Paul’s, the Very Reverend Andrew Tremlett.  After a welcome by the Dean and a powerful singing of Amazing Grace, we were addressed by the Mayor.  Moving prayers were led by the City of London Academy and Islington Combined Cadet Force.  After the Last Post, Silence and Reveille, crosses were planted by representatives of the City, armed forces and Masters.  It was a very moving experience, reflecting the very long-term commitment of the Livery to the City of London and the Country.
